Getting involved with your community
MAP runs projects to help young people get involved in your communities. The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) and Youth Action Groups provide opportunities for young people in the area to work together to make a difference to their communities. Find out more about the YAB on their Facebook page. If you’d like to get involved in the YAB or YAG’s, contact our youth worker Colin for more information.
Getting involved in Positive Activities
We offer a variety of positive activities in Great Yarmouth for young people who are facing difficulties in their lives and who may need additional support. We offer a wide range of activities which include day trips, residential weekends, workshops, and courses to gain qualifications, based on what young people tell us they want. They are a chance to
- try new things,
- meet new people,
- learn new skills,
- and discover skills you never knew you had.
We know that sometimes young people can find it difficult to get involved in positive activities if they
- are a carer for a member of their family;
- are looked after by someone who isn’t family;
- are having a tough time at school, have been excluded, or have special educational needs;
- have a disability, or mental health issues;
- have lots of difficult things going on in their family or at home;
- have, or are at risk of having, a criminal record;
- haven’t got a job, or aren’t in education or training.
Activities in the past have included outdoor skills trips to activity centres, capoeira and street dancing, sightseeing and wildlife walks, arts and crafts activities, sailing and canoeing, roller skating and indoor sports, trips to the Norfolk Show and to other events.
Find out more about these activities by contacting Colin.
If you have any comments or ideas about what young people in Great Yarmouth need and how we can develop our service, we’d love to hear from you. Go to have your say and tell us what you think.
