We must do more for our city’s young people

MAP CEO Dan Mobbs is featured in a hard-hitting interview in the EDP this week,  highlighting the dramatic increase in numbers of children and young people affected by mental health issues.  Dan attributes the rise to new academic and societal pressures combined with a decrease in the availability of appropriate, young person centred  support, guidance and counselling.   In most cases, he argues, early intervention from professional youth workers, teachers and counsellors, can prevent more serious mental health problems from developing in the future.  Another significant factor on a more local level, Dan adds, is deprivation, with social inequality and a lack of aspiration contributing to the poor mental health of many young people in Norwich
