Two brothers will be running the Norwich 10K this August to raise awareness of mental health issues and to enable more young people to get professional support from MAP to face life’s challenges.
Tom and Harry Atkins from Salhouse were affected at a young age by a close family member’s mental health problems and know how important the right support is at times of crisis.
Tom (20) who works at All Saints Green Dental Practice and will be going to Southampton University in September, said ‘We wanted to raise awareness of how mental health issues can affect families and how important it is to talk to someone when things are hard in your personal life. Our aunt is a youth counsellor at MAP and we know the amazing work she does helping young people with mental health issues or who are having a difficult time at school or at home. The money we raise will help more young people get this help.’
The brothers, who both went to Broadland High School in Wroxham, hope to complete the Norwich 10K in under 50 minutes with Tom acknowledging that little brother Harry (17) who plays for DESA (Dereham Education and Soccer Academy) and hopes to gain a scholarship in the USA, will probably be first over the line!
