Film Launch Proves Mental Health Awareness Top Priority for Young People

Young commissioners from the Norwich Youth Advisory Board (Norwich YAB) have created four mental health awareness videos addressing sensitive areas such as eating disorders, stress, insomnia and panic attacks.  “These topics can be very upsetting,” said one young commissioner and “we think using film and animation makes them easier to access and understand.”

Panic attack support & guidance in clear messages

Mental health has been a top priority for young people in the Norwich area for 2 years following an extensive survey, consulting over 2500 young people.

Looking at eating disorders

Each video was storyboarded, scripted and created by YAB members and support staff from MAP.  Two videos were commissioned out by the YAB to Indigo Illusions, a group of local Norwich artists, recently graduated from Norwich University of the Arts.

The YAB promoted the launch of ‘Messy Minds’ with the first ever radio spot on BBC Voices, and held a launch event at the Millennium Library to invite professionals and the public to see their work. The feedback was highly positive from everyone that has seen them.

The YABs look at ways to address issues by campaigning for change, lobbying people who make decisions, and funding projects to address the issues that are highlighted in the surveys.  If you would like to find out more, please visit our website and click here
