What a week it’s been for the Young People and their ongoing campaign to stamp out bullying in Norfolk.

Breckland Youth Advisory Board (YAB) received the Organisation of the Year Award at the Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation award ceremony –  As well as 7 YAB’s working together to host a phenomenal ‘Young People against Bullying Conference’

The Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation is the world’s first foundation dedicated to raising awareness of the long-term, damaging effects of bullying by connecting communities and raising funds to support those doing real-world work to eradicate bullying.

Each year the YABs ask young people what matters to them and their area. This year nearly 10,000 young people took part in YAB consultations, and bullying emerged as a top issue for young people across the county. The StandUp Foundation commended Breckland YAB for their youth-led work tackling the issue of bullying in Norfolk. As part of this work Breckland Young Commissioners organized for the Ofsted recognized provider of anti-bullying training, the Diana Award Trust, to deliver anti-bullying ambassador training to 100 school students and staff from across Norfolk. Young Commissioners from Breckland, Broadland and West Norfolk then represented the UK at this year’s World Anti-Bullying Forum in Dublin. To share their learning from the Forum Breckland Young Commissioners worked with local animation studio Indigo Illusions to create video resources for schools and youth groups to help tackle bullying.

They also recently joined up with YABs from across the county to hold the Norfolk Youth Against Bullying Conference. Around 200 young people and professionals came together to hear from leading experts in the field of anti-bullying and take part in youth-led workshops.

Youth Advisory Boards (YABs) are bodies of Young Commissioners (aged 11-19 and up to 25 with a disability) and professionals who work to identify the issues that young people in their area care most about and then take action through campaigning, lobbying, advocacy and commissioning services. A YAB operates in each district area of Norfolk. You can find out more about each of the YABs here.
