We’re proud to say that we support young people who are refugees or have experience with the asylum system.
There are lots of things we can support you with such as:
- Finding housing
- Managing bills
- Understanding benefits like Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment
- Free mental health advice and support if you need it
- Lots more!
We can also link you up with other services that may be able to offer more specific support for whichever situation you're in. Organisations like New Routes offer lots of support and opportunities for young refugees and people from migrant communities to feel part of their local community. New Routes have lots of events on at the moment as part of Refugee Week which you can explore here.
For an idea of how we can support you if you are a young person who is a refugee or has experience of the asylum-system, read this case study of a young person, Nadeem*, who came to MAP for support.
Nadeem (21) was previously an Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Child, having travelled to the UK as a refugee when he was 16.
MAP supported Nadeem with navigating Universal Credit and Council Tax, managing bills and taking on more hours at work, and ensuring he was receiving his full entitlement as a Care Leaver. We were also able to support Nadeem with a food parcel.
Nadeem has recently been granted refugee status and has been able to secure his own council property. He now goes to college and works part-time at a local business.
