Who are we?
We are young people who live or study in North Norfolk.
Each year we ask young people in North Norfolk about the issues that matter to them.
We then take action through campaigning, lobbying, advocacy, hosting events and commissioning services.
We work with adult professionals in our community to ensure that young people have a say in decisions that affect them.
Want your voice heard?
Want to make a difference?
The YAB is open to all young people aged 11-19 (up to 25 with a disability) who live or study in North Norfolk.
Members of the YAB are called Young Commissioners.
We meet regularly, and work together to make a positive difference in our communities.
Young Commissioners can take part in training, attend residentials, and have the opportunity to meet other young people and make new friends. There is never any cost, and food and transport is provided.
Until further notice, no face to face YAB groups & events will be taking place. We believe this is the best decision to keep everyone safe.
Youth workers Mel and Gill are still on hand to support young people and plan for the future. We have moved our YAB meetings to Zoom. Get in touch if you’d like to join!
Priorities for 2020-21
- Youth Voice
- Mental Health (including body image and self-harm)
- Environmental Issues in North Norfolk
Norfolk Youth Against Bullying
Young people across Norfolk told YABs that bullying was an issue affecting them of their area. We teamed up with the six other YABs to form Norfolk Youth Against Bullying.
We organised an anti-bullying conference for young people and professionals from around Norfolk. Attendees heard from leading experts in the field and took part in youth-led workshops.
Mental Health Awareness
As part of our Young Commissioner Development Programme we joined Young Commissioners from Broadland to take part in YMCA’s Youth Mental Health Awareness Training.
Young People’s Wellbeing
We have commissioned Bridge into Community to run Wellbeing Workshop Days to young people in North Norfolk.
These were delivered at Holt Hall and included a fun exercise session with a personal trainer, fire lighting, shelter building, toasting marshmallows, making lots of yummy food and a goody bag of gifts to support positive wellbeing.
These are now being delivered online due to the current pandemic. If you are interested in getting involved or know someone who is (they must be aged 11-19 & live or attend education in North Norfolk) then contact Lynn Friel on 07854 607 414 or firstname.lastname@example.org
PGL Summer Residential
We joined other Young Commissioners from around Norfolk for a four-day summer residential at the activity centre PGL.
We took part in activities including kayaking, zip-lining, abseiling and loads more!
