We are looking for a volunteer, aged 18 and over, to support our fortnightly youth group for MAP users aged 18-25. MAP social was created to combat social isolation, by providing a supported space for young people to increase their confidence in socialising through engagement with group activities and peer support.
We run a variety of sessions, including painting, decoupage, board games, quizzes, karaoke, as well as regular relaxed, unstructured sessions for young people to explore their interests together, such as music and art. Occasionally we go offsite to visit restaurants, escape rooms, bowling and even the cat café.
We are looking for someone who is confident in conversing with a diverse group of young people, supporting them in engaging in the group and navigating social situations by demonstrating positive social skills.
Our volunteer will be enthusiastic about activities, demonstrating willingness to get involved and take part in the group. Ideally, they would be confident in leading one or more of the following: board games, art/craft, music and karaoke, quizzes. They will also be support in setting up and packing down of the group.
At MAP, our values are very important in what we do and who we are. Here they are!
- Being young person centred - We listen to young people and continually respond to their changing needs. We offer choice and we’re flexible.
- Valuing each individual - We respect and celebrate difference. We know that each individual we work with is unique.
- Being professional - We believe that young people should get the best support at the highest quality.
- Working for social justice - We work alongside young people and aim to create a fairer more equal society.
